Post Adoption Support Specialist. Adoption Plus, a program of Appalachian Family Innovations of Appalachian State University, is seeking to fill a position in Winston-Salem, NC for a Post Adoption Support Specialist. This position will provide post adoption support services to families in a 10 county area that have adopted children from foster care with behavioral and emotional issues. This person will work closely with a team of other adoption professionals to offer post adoption services that are flexible, effective and comprehensive to meet differing family needs. This dynamic program is an expansion of services Adoption Plus has been offering for 26 years, with the state of NC now asking us to widen our efforts to a 10 county region.

Qualified applicants will be those who have experience understanding that families in crisis are easily overwhelmed, and who can then develop relationships that allow teaching effective and safe parenting strategies, the impact of early trauma on children, and the relevance of advocating for community services when needed. Direct experience with behavior management and teaching effective parenting strategies is highly desirable. This exciting new program will need an individual who will enjoy developing a continuum of care model that can be shared with other adoptive agencies across the state.
